About Our Speaker, Gevan Spinney

Pastor Gevan is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Haughton in Louisiana; he has served First Baptist since 2002. He is married to his high school sweetheart Andrea and they have three boys: Jeb, Jake, and Jude. They remind themselves often, “God has given us the business of raising Godly men in a godless culture”.

Pastor Gevan is a product of the ministry of First Baptist Haughton. He was saved in the student ministry in 1992. He was called to preach at First Baptist in 1995 and later ordained in 1997. He and Andrea were married at First Baptist in 2000.

As a pastor, he has been very involved in denominational life. He has served as moderator for the Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association. He has served twice on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He has served twice on the Committee on Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention. Pastor Gevan is also a former President of the Louisiana Baptist Convention.

Pastor Gevan has a Bachelor’s degree from East Texas Baptist University and a Masters of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry in Evangelism and Church Growth from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Some of his favorite things in life include: Witnessing a life being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, taking a road trip with his bride, sitting in a deer stand with one of his boys, watching the sun come up during the rut in Kansas, hearing a turkey gobble on a warm spring morning.

He is also part of a Hunting show called "The Way it Was". The Way It Was TV follows hunters Sid McCullin, Lynn Beaty, Hank Parker, and Gevan Spinney as they share their hunting knowledge with the next generation of outdoors enthusiasts.

Sharing the same core values of faith, family, hard work, and a strong passion for the outdoors has led to 47 years of hunting experiences together. The vision for The Way It Was TV is to show others the way things were when they were learning about the outdoors, and to positively impact a society that is filled with instant gratification and technology.
